Shipwreck in a sea of faces,
There's a dreamy world up there
Dear friends in higher places
Carry me away from here
Travel light, let the sun eclipse you
'Cause your flight is about to leave
And there's more to this brave adventure
Than you'd ever believe
Birds' eye view, awake the stars 'cause they're all around you
Wide eyes will always brighten the blue
Chase your dreams, and remember me, sweet bravery
'Cause after all these wings will take you up so high
So bid the forest floor goodbye as you race the wind and
take to the sky
So, a few days ago, I heard Owl City's 'Take to the Sky' for the first time. And it has been in my head ever since, spawning not one but two painting ideas, both featuring Aulani, who I created several years back but have never actually painted for a couple reasons, one of which is that wings are hard.
Finally got time to sit down and do this today, and I'm pretty pleased. It's simple, but it was a chance to work with a softer palette that I usually don't do, and get some interesting lighting effects.
Not sure when I'll get the other painting done, as it is considerably more complex. For now, I'm just enjoying getting things done.

I love this piece really. It's a piece I feel a real emotional connection to. Freedom so boundless that it extends to even freedom from the earth. A courage to follow one's dreams no matter what. Where will her wings take her? Where will she choose to land? It doesn't matter really for her home is truly the clouds and her only guide her curiosity.
